Quality of Service (QoS)
As the WiMAX initiative continues to gain traction around the world, carriers are looking to leverage this cost-effective and efficient technology to deliver a broad range of revenue-generating subscriber services. For carriers, profitably delivering these services depends on getting the most out of the WiMAX technology by efficiently using their wireless spectrum, offering a wider array of service packages, and differentiating themselves in a competitive marketplace.
Today's broadband applications-including VoIP, high-speed Internet, streaming multimedia and online gaming-are extremely bandwidth and delay sensitive, and can impose unique demands on network resources in order to function properly. This provides carriers the opportunity to improve their Average Revenue per User (ARPU) by offering a range of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that guarantee individual subscribers the bandwidth they require for any given application, at an agreed upon price. Carriers rely on the Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities of their network equipment to make that happen.
SR Telecom has taken an open, compatible and flexible approach to (QoS) and has set itself apart from other WiMAX vendors by integrating a carrier-grade gigabit router, which enables symmetryMX to process a much greater number of packets in a larger number of service classes. Essentially, symmetryMX offers wireline-equivalent QoS in a wireless environment. And with the addition of its advanced, patent-pending scheduler, symmetryMX provides better control over creating and enforcing SLA.
